It's December again, which means a lot of different things. The days are getting colder and sunsets are coming earlier, but our Christmas tree is up so our apartment feels cozy and festive. For those of you who are students, these next few weeks mean projects and finals as the end of the semester comes nearer. And for the seniors, it means the year on your letter jacket will soon match the year on the calendar.
This time of year means projects, rehearsals, and studying for finals. It means sending in college applications and waiting for the official acceptance letter in return. Maybe it's starting to sink in that you're almost finished with high school, or maybe you're still just trying to make it through the fall semester. Whether you're looking forward to graduation, summer, and moving on to the big adventure of college, or you're hesitant about leaving behind the places and people who have become familiar over the past four years, I know you have a lot to do and think about right now.
I love working with you guys, high school seniors. When I work with you I see your optimism and your passion. You're at a point in your life when you're looking forward to the future. You're passionate about the things you're involved in now and everything you're looking forward to. As a senior, you've spent the last four years becoming someone new, and you're deciding who you'll continue to become after you graduate.
And if you're not sure if you're excited about life after graduation, I see you too. I remember what it was like to be passionate about the friends and family I saw every day and I remember how much I cared about the things I was involved in as a high school student. Change is scary, and it never gets any less scary. You're preparing to be brave like you've never had to before, and I love that about you guys too.
I appreciate you for taking a few minutes out of your busy December schedule to read these paragraphs. If you've given me the chance to photograph you, thank you for being one of the highlights of my year. To those of you who follow me on Facebook or Instagram, thank you for the follows, likes, and comments. And those of you who take part in school activities, whether it's sports, drama, music, or something else, either as a participant or as someone who shows up to support the participants, I love seeing your passion and your spirit.
So as you prepare for your final semester of high school, just know that whether we've worked together or never even met in person, I'm rooting for you. And there are lots of others out there--in your school, in your family, in your community--who are rooting for you too.
